Il a dit qu’il décorerait l’ancien joueur de basket Jerry West, 81 ans, de la Médaille de la liberté, la plus haute distinction civile aux États-Unis, « pour son exceptionnelle carrière sur et en dehors des parquets ». Il a notamment été champion olympique en 1960, et champion NBA en 1972.
