Andy Murray a dominé Gilles Simon en deux sets 6-4, 6-3 pour accéder pour la quatrième fois à la finale du Masters 1000 de Shanghaï.

Gilles Simon s’est bagarré tout au long de la partie, sans réussir à faire craquer Andy Murray dans l’échange. Le Britannique, plus solide, a su varier le jeu quand il le fallait. Après avoir remporté difficilement la première manche, il a fait cavalier seul dans la seconde (5-1) avant de connaître un léger coup d’arrêt. Mais il trouvé l’énergie pour finir le match et signer une quinzième victoire en dix-sept matches face à Simon.

Le N.2 mondial, lauréat de l’épreuve en 2010 et 2011 et battu en finale en 2012, affrontera dimanche Roberto Bautista, 19e mondial. L’Espagnol a créé la surprise quelques heures plus tôt en écartant le N.1 mondial et tenant du titre Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-4. Murray peut profiter du faux-pas du Serbe pour se rapprocher de la place N.1. Même s’il en est encore loin (plus de 3.500 points avant le tournoi), il peut encore mathématiquement achever l’année au plus haut rang de l’ATP.
