Zidane sur le banc des Bleus ? « C’est mérité, tout simplement »

Invité ce mardi sur RMC dans l’émission Rothen s’enflamme, Thierry Henry a exprimé son soutien à Zinedine Zidane pour prendre les rênes de l’équipe de France après le départ de Didier Deschamps en 2026.

Selon l’ancien attaquant d’Arsenal et de l’AS Monaco, Zidane est un candidat « mérité » pour succéder à Deschamps, dont le mandat prendra fin après la Coupe du monde 2026. « Ça a été depuis longtemps ce que tout le monde pensait et demandait. Ce serait mérité, tout simplement », a déclaré Thierry Henry, soulignant le parcours exceptionnel de Zidane, notamment en tant qu’entraîneur du Real Madrid. Depuis son départ en 2021, Zidane est sans poste, et son nom revient régulièrement parmi les prétendants pour la sélection française. Henry, néanmoins, rappelle que Deschamps est toujours en poste et qu’il n’a aucune intention de se projeter avant la fin de son mandat. « Je ne pense à rien du tout. Est-ce que je suis candidat ? Je ne vais pas vous répondre. Il y a toujours un coach en place, c’est Didier Deschamps. Je lui souhaite bonne chance pour la prochaine compétition. Après, il faut demander au président », a-t-il précisé.

Thierry Henry, ancien coéquipier de Deschamps lors du sacre de 1998, a également salué le travail de l’actuel sélectionneur. « Je dois lui dire merci pour les conseils donnés quand on se voyait à la Fédération. Il me disait comment bien préparer la sélection, comment ça fonctionne à la Fédé », a-t-il confié. Pour lui, l’expérience de Deschamps, notamment lorsqu’il était capitaine, a toujours été précieuse, et son rôle dans la gestion de l’équipe de France ne doit pas être minimisé.

Un bel hommage à Deschamps

Enfin, Henry a tenu à adresser des félicitations à Didier Deschamps, en dépit des critiques parfois formulées à propos du style de jeu de l’équipe de France : « Bravo et merci », a-t-il déclaré. « Peu importe les critiques, Deschamps a fait un travail remarquable. »

Si Zidane semble être le grand favori pour la succession de Deschamps, Thierry Henry se garde bien de spéculer sur un éventuel retour à la tête des Bleus, mettant l’accent sur la nécessité de respecter l’actuel sélectionneur jusqu’à la fin de son mandat.
