Mais le booxeur pourrait se présenter aux prochaies présidentielles aux Philippines et mettre un terme définitif à sa carrière sur les rings.

Pacquiao devait à l’origine affronter Errol Spence, mais le gaucher américain a déclaré forfait il y a quelques jours en raison d’une blessure à un oeil. Ugas, un droitier de 35 ans, a accepté de relever le défi en dernière minute, lui qui détient depuis septembre 2020 le titre WBA des welters, retiré à Pacquiao en raison de son inactivité. « On n’a eu que deux semaines pour se préparer, mais j’ai écouté mes entraîneurs et ça a marché », s’est réjoui Ugas, qui a maintenant pour objectif d’unifier la catégorie des welters. Sur sa route, se trouve Errol Spence, qui détient les titres IBF et WBC.
