L’Espagnol Rafael Nadal, 5e joueur mondial, a été battu en demi-finales du tournoi sur terre battue de Buenos Aires, dont il était le tenant du titre, par le jeune Allemand Dominic Thiem, 22 ans, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7/4), samedi. Dimanche en finale, Thiem, le plus jeune joueur du Top 20 (19e), affrontera un Espagnol, David Ferrer ou Nicolas Almagro.
Nadal, 29 ans, disputait son premier tournoi depuis son élimination au premier tour de l’Open d’Australie.
